Easter in my house is always a lovely day. From the earliest days of toddling both my children have demanded an Easter Egg Hunt first thing. A boiled eggs and Hot Cross Bun breakfast follow and a traditional Sunday Lunch with Roast Lamb later.
Surprisingly, even though my children are 26 and 21 respectively (that’s YEARS OLD) they still want the same routine. So last year I attempted a tricky Treasure Hunt in place of the traditional egg hunt.
Thinking up the clues, with a G&T or two to help the process, was surprisingly easy.
I based the clues around family specific events and places, so, for instance one of the clues was a place where saints feet rest. This hiding place related to the Pouffe in our lounge – My husbands name is Christopher – although he’s not much of a saint tbh.
The hunt went down especially well. The prize at the end was a bag of chocolate eggs and it entertained them for an hour. Success.
This year though is going to present more of a problem. After nearly 3 weeks of getting under each others feet, tempers are fraying. And I can’t just pop to the shops to buy Easter Eggs. So I am going to have to come up with something to rival last year….
For the younger (and young at heart) children, here is my simple recipe for Crisped Rice Easter Nests
3cups Crisped Rice
4tbsp Golden Syrup
1tbsp Caster Sugar
1tsp Cocoa Powder
Chocolate Eggs for decoration
Makes about 12
Line a Cupcake Tray with Paper Cases
Melt the butter in a large pan and add the Golden Syrup and Caster Sugar
Once melted add in the cocoa powder and mix well
Add the Crisped Rice and stir gently to coat in the chocolaty mixture
Spoon enough mixture into the paper cases to fill and use the back of the spoon to create an indent large enough for the chocolate eggs
Decorate the cakes and place the tray into the fridge for 2 hours to set
Enjoy, Happy Easter and Stay Safe!
